Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, a renowned Islamic Scholar, Philanthropist, and the founder of All India Democratic Front (AIUDF), was born on February 12, 1950, in Hojai, Assam. Maulana Ajmal hails from a very affluent business family deeply rooted in social service.

Maulana Badruddin Ajmal’s early life was marked by a strong commitment to education and social service. He pursued religious studies and obtained a degree in Islamic Theology from Darul Uloom Deoband, one of the most prestigious Islamic Educational Institutions in India.

Establishing Foundations for Education and Healthcare across Northeast India

He established ‘Markazul Ma-Arif’, an NGO, in 1983 and formally dedicated himself to the service of humanity. Markazul Ma-Arif is now one of the biggest NGO’s in Assam. Later on Ajmal family established the ‘Ajmal Foundation’ which has been providing help to the poor and the needy across North East India as well as across the country.

In 2005, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal founded the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) with the vision of creating a political platform that could effectively represent the interests of the minority communities and advocate for their rights within the democratic framework of India. Under his leadership, AIUDF emerged as a significant political force in Assam, championing the cause of social justice, religious harmony, and inclusive development.

Championing Social Justice & Equality, The Legacy of Maulana Ajmal.

Maulana Ajmal’s political journey has been characterized by a steadfast commitment to secularism, democracy, and pluralism. He has been a vocal advocate for the rights of minorities, women, and marginalized groups, and has consistently strived to bridge the gap between different communities.

Unlike other politicians, politics is not his profession, yet Maulana Ajmal has been very successful in the field of politics. AIUDF had been able to win 10 seats in their debut Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2006, just six months after the formation of the party. Maulana Ajmal himself has been victorious from two Legislative Assembly Constituencies in that election. Later, he resigned from Assam Legislative Assembly and contested the General Elections (Lok Sabha) from Dhubri and have been elected as a Member of Parliament for three consecutive terms – 2009, 2014 and 2019. In the succeeding Assam Legislative Assembly Elections, AIUDF managed to win 18 (2011), 13 (2016) and 16 (2021) seats respectively. Besides Maulana Ajmal, the party managed to elect two other Member of Parliaments in 2014. A large part of credit for these successes goes to the able and efficient leadership of Maulana Badruddin Ajmal.

A survey by the ‘Outlook’ in 2013 placed Maulana Badruddin Ajmal as the Most Influential Person in Assam. He had also been placed in the list of Hundred Most Influential Indians by The Indian Express in 2016. Maulana Ajmal’s name has been listed in ‘The Muslim 500’ – the list of 500 Influential Muslims in the World, every year for the last 12 years.
