AIUDF seeks investigation on alleged involvement with terror outfit
Even as news reports created sensation about the alleged involvement of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) with Islamic fundamentalist across the region, the AIUDF on Friday asked the Union Home Minister for a proper investigation. Meanwhile, life in Assam was paralyzed and several untoward incidents took place across the state as Bajrang Dal called for a 12 hour Assam bandh. Refuting the news telecast by a Delhi-based news channel that AIUDF president and Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal has links with Islamic fundamentalist based in Bangladeshi, the party has emphasized it’s a conspiracy.

On Friday, party president Badruddin Ajmal met President Pranab Mukherjee at Delhi and urged him for an inquiry to unearth the truth. During the day, he also met the Union Home Secretary at Delhi and apprised him the matter. Earlier, a team of the party led by Ajmal also met Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju to seek clarification on the issue besides submitting a memorandum to Assam governor JB Patnaik. “Saying that there is no such intelligence report which alleged the involvement with terrorist outfit, Rijiju promised that the centre would take the matter seriously,” a party leader said. Even Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi echoed it. “There is no evidence against the Jamiat or the AIUDF with the state government. Unless we have evidence, there is no question of taking action against anyone. I will start an investigation from the state government’s side and find the truth. Anyone found indulging in such acts of terrorism will be booked and not spared,” Gogoi said.

The busy Saraighat bridge over the river Brahmaputra in Guwahati wears a deserted look during the 12 hour Assam bandh called by Bajrang Dal and other units of Sangh Pariwar against the alleged involvement of AIUDF chief Bardruddin Ajmal with Islamic Fundamentalist. Meanwhile, AIUDF has vowed to take legal action against the television channel which brought the allegation against AIUDF. “The news was leaked with a political motive and to create communal tension at a time the party was in the ascendant in the state. We demand a thorough investigation in the matter,” said AIUDF general secretary Aminul Islam. Meanwhile, several untoward incidents took place across the state and general life was paralyzed as Bajrang Dal and other Sangh Parivar outfits called a 12 hour Assam bandh protesting the alleged involvement of AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal with Islamic fundamentalists. Police arrested at least 70 bandh supporters for trying to disturb normal life and destroy public property.
